Children Playing Together

About us

  • "Penny-Anne has made a significant impact through her collaborative work on Matilda the Musical in London's West End supporting both the production and its performers. Bringing specialist insight into the unique demands of children's and adults' voices, she has strengthened vocal health, resilience, and performance sustainability across the cast. Her expertise, delivered in a way that is both inspiring and enjoyable to work alongside, has made a meaningful difference to performer wellbeing and the overall quality of the show."

Laura Neele, Head of Voice, Matilda the Musical

  • Penny-Anne helped me hugely with voice recovery and health over a period when I was playing a vocally demanding role. Through a methodical progression of breath and voice exercises I was not only able to come back to full capacity, but maintain good vocal health moving forwards. It was a vital learning experience for me.

Seb, Mr. Wormwood, Matilda the Musical

  • Thank you so much for such a wonderful workshop, Penny-Anne. Your clarity, humour and meticulous approach always make everything so easy to understand and put into practice, both in the moment, then later as I absorb it into my work with actors. I always get a huge amount from working with you and I hope that I can do so again soon.

Charlie Hughes-D’Aeth, Consultant Voice Coach, Matilda The Musical

  • My son had speech difficulties from a young age, which included not being able to sound the first letters of words, lacked speech clarity, with a resulting impact on his confidence and overall development. Penny Anne worked with our Son from the age of 5 years old once a week for over three years and achieved the most dramatic and life changing results. Our Son has since won public speaking awards, enjoyed leading roles in drama productions and achieved Grade 8 Lamda. In addition, he has gone on to exploit his speaking ability in his chosen career of Law, being able to articulate and debate complex issues orally and in writing to the highest level. Everything our Son has achieved originates from the investment made by Penny Anne, her expertise, care and support in those difficult early years. We cannot thank her enough, and will forever be grateful to Penny Anne.

  • If you need a coach who understands both the clinical and creative side of the voice, Penny Ann is it. I worked with her during Fat Ham at the RSC while navigating a history of vocal pathology and the challenge of unamplified performance. She was incredible at combining speech therapy with acting and singing technique to help me meet the intense demands of an eight-show week.
Penny Ann truly understands the holistic nature of the voice. I would often go into our sessions feeling physically tense and sounding rough, but I would leave with my larynx free and breathing deeply. She was with me all the way from previews to closing night, alleviating my stress and allowing me to focus entirely on the performance.
Beyond the physical relief of vocal manipulation and massage, she gave me technical tools I could actually implement mid-show. Her genuine passion for theatre and the voice is felt in everything she does, and she went above and beyond—even attending and noting the show—to ensure my instrument was protected for the long term. She is an invaluable asset to any professional performer—a total gem.

  • Penny-Anne has been instrumental in helping our daughter overcome many barriers to learning and ultimately in helping us secure her EHCP. Our daughter has complex needs, including Auditory Processing Disorder, Developmental Language Disorder and ASD, and Penny-Anne’s knowledge of the SEN world was invaluable. Her consistently positive, encouraging attitude made an enormous difference throughout what can often feel like a very overwhelming process.

From the very beginning Penny-Anne immediately “clicked” with our daughter. Her genuine understanding of our daughter’s needs meant that sessions were engaging, supportive and tailored to her specific challenges. Our daughter genuinely enjoyed working with her, which made a huge difference for us as parents, as she was far more willing to practise the exercises Penny-Anne set at home.

Penny-Anne’s expertise, patience and warmth gave us confidence and reassurance at every step. We are incredibly grateful for the support she provided our family and would highly recommend her to anyone navigating the SEN journey.

  • I had the pleasure of working with Penny-Anne after a heavy performance schedule, combined with illness, left me experiencing vocal problems. After months of struggling through, within just a few sessions of work with Penny-Anne the results were remarkable. Focusing on breath work and release, using simple yet highly effective and targeted exercises, she was able to get me back on track. Her laryngeal manipulation - a gentle, hands-on procedure that I had never experienced before, but cannot recommend enough - was key to reducing the muscle tension in my larynx, throat and neck. Without Penny-Anne's expertise and guidance I wouldn't have been able to get back to work and I can't thank her enough for her help & support.

West End and Broadway Lead Man

  • It has been a pleasure to work with Penny-Anne over the last 15 years, jointly managing patients with throat and voice disorders. She is a highly experienced and valued colleague.

  • Working alongside Penny-Anne (2014-2023) on Matilda the Musical, I've seen first-hand the depth of her knowledge, insight and remarkable effectiveness in supporting young performers. She played a vital role  in developing and maintaining the vocal health of 35 Matildas and 100s of child cast members in addition to helping many children overcome significant vocal challenges. She is an exceptional collaborator, thoughtful, reliable and deeply attuned to both the technical and emotional needs of performers. Since leaving Matilda, I've continued to bring her onto other productions, including Paddington the Musical and I cannot recommend her highly enough both professionally and personally.

    Liz Flint

Voice and Dialect Coach, West End, TV and Film Industry; Resident Voice Coach 2014-2023, Matilda the Musical

  • I first encountered Penny-Anne's knowledge and skills when I was a singer at the RSC and she delivered a voice workshop. I was so impressed, I asked her to run a Masterclass for my advanced singing students. They loved it and learned so much. Ever since then, Penny-Anne and I have designed and led musical theatre and drama workshops together. Children of all ages respond brilliantly to her passion for, and expertise in, healthy voice work.
